Citizen AV0031-59E Description

More than just a pretty face, the Citizen AV0031-59E Eco-Drive Calibre 2100 men’s stainless steel watch offers stylish lines that nicely complement both business and casual couture. But it’s also one of the most advanced chronograph watches made by Citizen, offering a reset button that instantly returns all the chronograph registers to zero. The chronograph timing function includes 60-minute, 12-hour, and independent second-hand subdials, as well as a center sweep 1/5-second hand.

This large, round watch has a thin, flattened bezel with an exterior tachymeter reading in black. The black dial face is accented by black subdials, and it offers white luminous Dauphine hands (with seconds hand) and a date function at 4 o’clock. The stainless steel bracelet band is joined by a fold-over deployment clasp. Other features include a screw-back case, screw-down crown, scratch resistant mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, and water resistance to 660 feet (200 meters).

This Citizen AV0031-59E watch is powered by Citizen’s unique Eco-Drive, which absorbs sunlight and any artificial light through the crystal and dial to recharge the watch continuously. With regular exposure to light, the Eco-Drive continuously recharges itself for a lifetime of use.

This watch’s Eco-Drive provides a 240-day power reserve, and it can be recharged with just 3.5 hours of exposure to light.

  1. EW (USA) says:

I’ve been wearing it daily for over 3 years now, it is very accurate, durable watch.

Not a single scratch on it. Totally maintanance free watch. I love it!

  2. A. Cisneros "yts62II" (Texas) says:

I have been wearing Citizen watches for about twenty years.

I have NEVER had a problem with a Citizen watch (I’ve lost them skiing or given them away).
This watch is Sexy! It is a very large and heavy watch.

  3. H. Word "Bozack69" (Millington, Tennessee) says:

No doubt that great reviews of the Citizen’s Eco-Drive series watches are plentiful online. So after some research of my own; I decided to purchase this watch for my son’s graduation present from the Marine Corps. So….after about 30 minutes of playing with it; I’m thinking about keeping it for myself! This is really an awesome watch! It’s sleek, modern, and very manly.

Citizen really put a lot of R&D in their Calibre line, which definately put them somewhere near the top of the heap! I still can’t beleive the superb quality the Japanese makers put into this watch. It’s solid, heavy, and the overall design is first class. It’s keeping perfect time, and I absolutely love the 1/5th sec chronograph sweep function. The Calibre 2100 also has a 12 hour alarm. This particular watch has a mineral crystal that can be updated to sapphire by Citizen.

Another thing I’m thrilled about, is that it’s solar powered. The first 48 hours after purchase, I kept the watch locked in my computer hutch. Pulled it out to show a friend, and the solar power dail, was still reading full charge. Awesome! No more buying expensive batteries.

My Casio PAG takes (2) batteries at $3 a pop! And on top of that; it takes about 15 minutes to remove the back plate! So, if you figure changing batteries every 3yrs, the Citizen will literally pay itself off over time. But remember….the Calibre is one of those watches that you keep forever and then pass it down to the grand-kids. This is definately a poor mans Rolex. And since I’m 100% sure that my son is going to love it; I can 100% highly recommend the Citizen Calibre 2100 59E.

  4. E. J. Lapham IV "evolDiesel" (Portland, OR) says:

I just got this for Christmas from Fiance and I gotta say I love it!

It’s larger than I expected. It’s also heavier than I expected. In other words, it’s a girthy machine.

I also wasn’t aware of the asymetry of the case. The right side is circular, but the left side is artistically slanted, flairing outwards to the inside of the wrist. I must say, from a industrial designer aspect, this unexpected aesthetic absolutely makes the watch. It’s subtle surfacing like this that makes you look at it just a little bit longer.

As for the functionality, I was a little worried when I saw how thick the manual was. But, the original packaging also came with a mini CD ROM that has a wonderful tutorial to get the watch set up.

It takes you through the time, then the date, the alarm, the chrono, the tachymeter, and how the eco-drive system functions. I must say, it’s much easier to use than I expected.

I would like to thank a previous reviewer on here for suggesting the black face. This is definitely the model to get. The brushed alluminum, black face, white dials provide class and contrast. It’s very easy to read. I’m glad I didn’t ask for the white face (my first choice).

Overall, this is an exceptional piece for the price. It has that perfect blend of geek and sleek that’s a tricky line to tread.

  5. sc300ftw says:

Before my first citizen (this watch) I would buy fossil watches because they were cheaper, but still looked decent. But after about a year either the batteries would die or in one instance the mechanical winding mechanism broke.

I decided to step up into the Citizen Eco-drive series and will never go back. I have had this particular watch for around 2 years and have nothing but compliments. This is a more heavy/dressy watch but the weight feels like it is meant to be.

I have left it in dark (face down on desk) for a month and still it was running in power save mode (the second hand ticks only every other 2 seconds) but after about 30 minutes in the sun the battery gauge showed a little more than half and it was still on the correct time. Love the watch would strongly recommend any friend towards citizen watches.
